We like to see puppies and kittens at 6 weeks of age to start their vaccines and check a stool sample for parasites.
You have to keep in mind that most pets are spayed and neutered when they are puppies or kittens. They are very active at this age and burn a lot of calories. They will naturally gain weight as they grow older and settle down. That is why it is important to weigh your pet often, measure their food out and make sure they get plenty of exercise.
Because cats and dogs age so much faster than we do, we recommend they get a wellness exam twice a year. If your pet is a senior, 7 years or older, they may have to come more often, especially if they have health problems or are on medication.
